License models
SEGGER’s Commercial-use License (CUL) Agreement offers a range of license models to match various development setups and organizational needs. Licenses can be tied to specific hardware, individual PCs, developers, and automated environments, or they can be shared across teams and networks.
Scalable options are available for single users, sites, entire companies, and global organizations. Each model clearly defines who can use the software, where it can be used, and under what technical and organizational conditions.
J-Link locked License
The J-Link Locked License entitles a single individual to use the software exclusively with one specific SEGGER J-Link debug probe, identified by its unique serial number. The license may be used only on one self-contained computer (stationary or portable) that is directly and physically connected to the designated SEGGER J-Link debug probe.
Replacement of the designated SEGGER J-Link debug probe with another SEGGER J-Link debug probe may be permitted by SEGGER, provided the original probe has been identified and approved by SEGGER as defective.
The software may not be accessed by other individuals or from other computer systems that are not directly and physically connected to the designated SEGGER J-Link debug probe, except when accessed via J-Link tunnel mode.
If more than one individual within an organization, company, or similar entity is to use the software under the J-Link Locked License model, the permitted number of users is defined by the number of SEGGER J-Link debug probes—identified by their unique serial numbers—listed on the purchase order and the corresponding order confirmation.
PC locked license (where applicable, upon request)
A PC-Locked License is a personal, non-exclusive license that permits an individual to use the software when it is locked to the MAC address of the computer on which the software is installed. The license may be used only by that individual and only on one self-contained computer (stationary or portable), which is designated and identified by its MAC address or another SEGGER-approved method of identification.
PC-Locked Licenses are available from SEGGER upon request.
Automated Environment License (where applicable, upon request)
An Automated Environment License permits the use of the software in automated environments, including build servers and continuous integration systems. The license may not be used for active project development. It may also not be used with works that have been created without a commercial-use license.
The Automated Environment License is not hardware-locked and may be installed and used on a single computer unit or a single virtual machine instance.
Device-based License
In cooperation with selected silicon vendors, the software is available free of charge.
The Device-based License entitles users to use the software under defined circumstances, such as for and with specified devices, only.
Floating License (where applicable, upon request)
A Floating License entitles any individual employed by the user and working within their company network to use the software. However, the number of individuals able concurrently use the software is limited. The limitation is defined by the number of seats associated with the license. A floating license is installed on an instance of the SEGGER license server on your company network. The license manager releases concurrent licenses for as many individuals as you have purchased seats for.
Unlocked Developer-based License (where applicable, upon request)
This license entitles the user to designate a limited number of uniquely named developers employed by the user to use the software on any of their workstations. The number of permitted developers is specified in the applicable purchase order and order confirmation. The user is solely responsible for ensuring that only the designated developers use the software under this license. The user shall maintain a list of the designated developers and provide it to SEGGER upon request. Only the uniquely named developers included on this list are entitled to receive technical support from SEGGER.
Site License (upon request)
A Site License entitles the user as a single legal entity to designate an unlimited number of individuals employed by the user and working at facilities located within one city, or within a radius of 20 miles (whichever is greater), to use the software in connection with the development and creation of the user's products. The applicable city is specified in the purchase order and the related order confirmation.
Company-wide License (upon request)
A Company-wide License entitles the user as a single legal entity to designate an unlimited number of persons employed by the user to use the software in connection with the development and creation of the user's products. The use of the software by consultants or affiliates or subsidiaries is not permitted and requires the purchase of additional licenses or a Global License.
Global License (upon request)
A Global License entitles the user as a single legal entity to designate an unlimited number of persons employed by the user to use the software in connection with the development and creation of the user's products. The use of the software by affiliates or subsidiaries is permitted, provided that the user has an ownership of more than 50% of the controlled affiliate or subsidiary's voting shares.
An affiliate or subsidiary is entitled to use the software only during the period when such control exists.
